About Me

Hi there!  If you made it to this page then I’m assuming you’d like to know more about me.  In this page, you can find information about my academic and professional background, research interests, and other personal tidbits.

Currently, I am an MBA graduate from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan.  I was a recipient of the 2015 MEXT Monbukagakusho Japanese Government Scholarship.  I have had the dual privileges of being a Research and Teaching Assistant for professors in Finance, Business, Economics, and Management.  My research contributions have helped professors keep their publications relevant.  These can be found in books such as Asian Business and Management: Theory, Practice and Perspectives and Globalization and the Inequality Trap: An Ethnography of Philippine Capitalism.   I have taught supplementary courses in Finance and Business Economics at the MBA level.  Prior to the MBA, I obtained my BS in Business Economics from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

On a professional level, I have experience in Wealth and Relationship Management for the emerging affluent segment in a top global financial institution.  It was here where I handled a $15-million portfolio of varying investments such as mutual funds, bonds, and insurance-linked investments.  I started out doing some 50-some odd cold calls per day to clients and eventually built the portfolio over time.   Investment-pitching to high net-worth clients was also a daily occurrence.

On a more personal level, I would like to think myself as a normal extraordinaire.  First off, I love cars.  Cars are reflections of visionaries who continue to dream of innovative ways of transportation.  I fully appreciate the tremendous technology in cars of today and the future but I have this soft spot for over engineered cars of the past.  Second, I love food.  Having spent a good amount of time in Japan made me appreciate the fine details of sushi and udon.  I admire how these are both simple and complex at the same time.  Trying out street food, wherever I may be, is a constant.  Third, I have a penchant for traveling and making videos.  My YouTube channel can be found here.  Please let me know how I can improve it!  Fourth, I love books.  Each one makes me more foolish.  Fifth, I have grown to like investing, even though valuations in the Philippines are quite lofty and shady.  There’s nothing like seeing biases turning into returns/losses, or vice versa.

Please feel free to send me the occasional question/s.  I’d love to hear what random people have to say.

Cheers!

Victor
